About The Circularity Brief
Independent intelligence on ITAD, technology and the circular economy.
The Circularity Brief is an independent publication focused on IT asset disposition, technology reuse, recycling and the wider circular economy, with a particular focus on Asia-Pacific and Japan.
The technology lifecycle is changing quickly.
Data-centre expansion, tightening regulation, changing global supply chains, consolidation in the ITAD industry and growing demand for critical materials are creating new opportunities and new challenges across the sector.
The Circularity Brief exists to make sense of those changes.
Why The Circularity Brief?
A lot of industry information is either highly fragmented or comes directly from companies with a commercial interest in the story.
The Circularity Brief takes a different approach.
We follow the companies, transactions, regulations, infrastructure and material flows behind the headlines to understand what is actually changing in the market.
The goal isn’t to predict the future.
It is to understand what is happening now, put it into context, and identify the developments worth watching.
The perspective
The Brief comes from an ITAD and operations perspective.
That means looking at circularity not only as a sustainability issue, but as an operational and commercial system.
What happens to the equipment?
Who owns it?
Where does it go?
Who processes it?
What regulations apply?
What is it actually worth?
And what happens to the material when reuse is no longer possible?
Those practical questions sit at the centre of our research.
Asia-Pacific & Japan
Much of the conversation around ITAD and the circular economy has historically centred on North America and Europe.
Asia-Pacific is different.
Markets vary significantly in regulation, infrastructure, supply chains, labour, technology adoption and recycling capacity.
Japan is particularly interesting: a mature technology market with established recycling infrastructure, strong domestic companies and a very different business environment from the markets where much of the global ITAD industry developed.
The Circularity Brief follows these markets closely.
Independent by design
The Circularity Brief is independent.
Research is based on publicly available information, industry sources, regulatory material, company disclosures and practical industry experience.
Commercial relationships do not determine editorial conclusions.
Where the evidence is unclear, we will say so.
Where there are competing interpretations, we will show them.
About the author
Viktor Yoshimura
ITAD & Circular Economy Consultant
Viktor has worked across IT asset disposition, service delivery and operational improvement, with experience spanning enterprise technology, data destruction, reuse, recycling and APAC operations.
His work has focused on the practical side of the technology lifecycle: how equipment moves through the system, how processes are designed and improved, and how businesses can capture more value while maintaining security, compliance and operational control.
The Circularity Brief grew out of that experience and a broader interest in the forces reshaping the industry.
Ownership
The Circularity Brief is owned and operated by Semla株式会社, an independent consulting and technology services company based in Japan.
